Interviews with the New Zealand Community Association Many people volunteer at the Lonny Wilsoncroft Community Centre. I’m sure those who use the centre frequently have come across these helpers at various events, but have you ever wondered why they volunteer, or how they started? I would like to thank everyone that came along to Gala Day on Cheviot St Rec, we hope you enjoyed yourselves, we had lots of new attractions this year, which went down really well. I have to thank our lovely volunteers, who worked so hard both before, during and after the event. Thanks to Peter Good, Cllr Adrian Pegg, Shania, Rosie, Shyler, Kia and Sarah, who all turned up on the day to run stalls for us.To Andy, Jude and Lynn who provided us with plants and Andys fantastic bug hotels for the children to assemble, which went down a treat. Happy New Year to all residents of the New Zealand area of Derby. We hope you have a successful and prosperous one, with lots of fun and laughter along the way! We are looking forward to a great year ahead. This year we will be celebrating our 10th anniversary of the opening of our community centre, the Lonny Wilsoncroft, so there will be a bit of a party come April 21st. We are still on the look out for our mini bus, and hope to have that in service in the not too distant future. A Resident asked a question at the last Residents meeting of the Councillors present, which was, 'Were the Council going to come and spray the weeds that are growing up in the gutters and at the base of alot of the houses in the terraced streets of the New Zealand area'. We were informed that the Council no longer provide this service. You will probably all have seen the mess our streets are becoming because of this problem and so the NZCA along with our local MP Amanda Solloway will be having a clean up day - mostly pulling out these weeds on Thursday 25th August starting at 11am. Thanks to everyone who attended the Jumble Sale this afternoon. We raised £206.06 for our mini bus fund. We hope you got some good bargains. A big thank you for all our volunteers - Jill, Sue, Jayne, Melissa, Tracy, Mu, Jayne, Pauline, Nathan, Lynn and Rob and his son.
